Capoeira, capoeira, capoeira all around.
No kidding!
All this weekend my capoeira group held a workshop with our mestre, who came down from San Francisco. I never met him before, so I was really excited beforehand.
And, as it turned out, I was right to be!
Yesterday I showed up at the workshop kinda late, but no harm done. He really worked us, but I could tell I didn't feel the brunt of all the work (compared to today, that is). I was really happy and I felt like I learned stuff. He's HILARIOUS, very active and always moving around, doing all these funny actions to help get his point across. I was able to understand him despite his thick accent :]
After yesterday's class I went to dinner with a handful of people in the group. We all went to Big Wok at Redondo Beach, and it is GOOD. I highly recommend it. You just choose a bunch of things to put in your bowl and watch chefs cook it on a big wok (hence the name) for you. It was deeeelicious. One bowl was enough to fill me up :P Many lulz ensued over dinner and much was learned about others. I love it.
Today I got to workshop a liiiiittle late... I woke up half an hour before it was scheduled to start (!!!) so I was all panicky and hurried on over there. Fortunately, when I got there (15 minutes past 'start time'), everybody was still just standing around, stretching, talking, etc. Apparently they were running on Brazilian time.
Apparently Brazilian time is the same as Filipino time XD!
Damn, all the stretches and other exercises I missed yesterday came to me today, and they were HARD. There were times where my limbs felt like lead and my muscles felt like jello. And a few of those times the placebo effect failed to help me! Resulting in many falls. But hey, I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down.
I felt better once we start moving. I feel like I can push myself better through movement rather than holding a pose for a long time. By the end of today, my feet felt suuuuper tender (still does), and I think I got a blister that popped. We capoeira'd on carpet, that's why. I was gonna go out to dinner with them again tonight, but I decided to save my feet (and wallet) the pressure and kick it at home.
so yea! That was my capoeira-filled weekend.
If I were still in high school, it would've been a jazz-filled weekend.
This weekend, my old jazz band went up to San Luis Obispo for the Cuesta College Jazz Festival.
And you know what?
They took first place again, for the third year in a row!
Hot diggity damn they're so good!
I do believe they're gonna move up a level now.
I was actually supposed to go up there with them, but I decided to go for the workshops. :3 I'm happy for them though. First place again, that's incredible!
Whew, what a weekend. I'm tired now.
yea, it's like 1:12AM here and I really wanna watch the Heroes eps I missed in the past month online XD
But I gots to wak up early tomorrow... I've got a capoeira workshop tomorrow, and I want to be able to wake up!
...well... maybe just one episode.
Maybe.
...just one.
eye-candy blog coming soon.
So, with the invite of me friend Anna, I joined a site called NuTang.
It's a blogging site kind of like Vox, except you get paid to blog.
Well... technically, you get paid 0.001USD for every visit you get, and once you get up to 20USD, they mail you a nice little check.
...that means 20,000 viewers to get up to that point, folks!
The task is daunting, but can be done.
No, I will not abandon Vox.
In terms of design and comfortable browsing, I like Vox better though. :]
OH GOD OH GOD, HEROES TOMORROW
What is one of your favorite poems?
Submitted by marvel is my pen name.
Whew, good thing he said "one of" my favorite poems.
Here's one I always liked:
Invictus
by William Ernest Henley
Out of the Night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyonds this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
Video: Show us a clip from your current favorite TV show.
Good Lord... if you guys haven't seen it yet, you're seriously missing out. One of the greatest shows on television today without a doubt.
In a gist, multiple people around the world with superpowers.
Sounds a little bit cliché, I know... but they sure have one hell of a storyline to back it up.
This clip is the official... thing from NBC, I guess. I'm really, really antsy about the upcoming episodes. For those of you who do watch Heroes, let me just say this...
OH MY GOOOOD MOHINDER NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
'kay I'm done.
Oh, I would put up an Avatar clip as well, but I haven't got any, and neither does YouTube-- unless you want crappy fanmade music videos :P
In case anybody did not know, MUSE will be playing on April 9 at San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and on April 10 at The Forum of Los Angeles.
If you want to purchase tickets online, click on
this link to Ticketmaster for Muse.
I've already got my tickets.
Good luck to all of you!
Show us love.
This is the Valentine Image of the Year.
...oh baby!
I'm kind of ehhh when it comes to Valentine's Day. I mean, all it really is for me is an excuse to eat out-- and ANY excuse to eat out is all good and valid, amirite?
Mmhm.
Well, today everybody else got that notion and all the restaurants were filled, so instead my mom, sister and I ordered pizza and breadsticks.
Then I went to capoeira, and although I had time there to sit and digest, it did not do me well in the roda. I swear, it's like I magically forgot my moves.
Baahh... I really need to start training on my own more. I'm getting sloppy coz of it D:
ANYWAY, I hope everybody else had a nice day!
Alright, so I redesigned this blog. I wish they had an option where you can like, choose things to go in the side tables aside from what comes standard... like links to places and stuff... that'd be cool. Not that Vox isn't already cool, but heyhey.
I made the banner myself. It's a part of a collage piece I did, I just cut+pasted it together... it's even got my signature there, so don't take it!
I'm also going to redesign my myspace. I've been saying this for a LONG TIME, and every single time, I learn a little HTML... then I get impatient and forget it all. Hurray? But yea, I'm gonna do this time. IMMA DO IT THIS TIME GUYS
I'm also going to learn how to speak Tagalog, at least well enough to get by in the Philippines since I'll be going there thiscoming December. That's plenty of time to learn, right? :D
Ah... there's really no point to this entry :P I'll head off now.
What's the most famous movie you've never seen?
Submitted by Mike.
THE GODFATHER.
I really, REALLY want to watch that movie still. And Goodfellas. All those great mobster movies I've been missing out on... ugh.
