I've had this blog since the start of my college experience and since then I've gone through plenty of changes, I noticed. For one, I'm not as pathetic now when it comes to high school related memories/nostalgia... I was reading back on those days and thinking, man, I was so sad. XD
Life's pretty good right now. There are times when I feel a lot of pressure coming from school and home, but I always manage to get back down to Earth—ironically enough by looking to the sky. Prayer relaxes me.
This past Saturday I had my capoeira batizado! Yayayayayyayyaaaa!
It was pretty interesting. I was nervous the entire time.
When the music started though, the pressure was brought down. I love capoeira, I really do.
I got baptised by Mestre Preguica! I feel so honored! Mestre Preguica!
He kicked me really really hard in the chest because I wouldn't fall down when he tripped me. XD Knocked the wind outta me! But I was blessed. It was awesome, he kept hugging me afterwards. My mom was kind of upset, but I was still happy. He's cool.
One thing about Vox that sort of bugs me is that you can't put in pictures and videos like you can on other sites... I mean, it's cool that they have special operations for it, but sometimes X-Large just isn't large enough (look at my previous post), or sometimes I just don't want a weird border around it. Oh well.
I'm sooo bad at updating, hahaha.
I don't even update my paper journal (which I haven't in like, 6 months or so anyway).
School's almost out... a little over a month and I'm DONE!
I know what the Spring fever is... feeling lazy just coz I'm used to college... gotta, gotta shake this off! Yikes!
I'm spending a lot more of my time on 9thwonders, the official/unofficial Heroes fansite.
ONE MORE WEEK UNTIL HEROES AIRS AGAIN
I've gotten so many of my friends into it recently, now they can't wait either! Wahoo!
Hm, what else does my life consist of...
ah, yes! Art!
I have no class yet. Am still practicing life drawings. I can do it pretty well when I'm in the mood, but when I'm not, I get all overanalytical and sheetz. Which sucks. I do do (heheheheh doo-doo) Heroes fanart, and Heroes fanfiction.
THAT'S RIGHT, FANFICTION, GO AHEAD AND LAUGH
I haven't done fanfiction since... oh what, 8th grade? Back when I was your typical angstyfreshteeeenager. It was Invader ZIM fanfiction and Yu-Gi-Oh. Oh man, I get chills just remembering it.
But seriously, I've gotten a lot of great reviews on my latest one, Awakenings. It's a story about Sylar getting Niki/Jessica's brain and gaining an alter-ego of his own... and it's not Gabriel! Gasp!
Hopefully that kind of exercises my writing skills for when I get back to writing story with Brent (who is taking his time writing his part). That part's aaaalmost finished.
And capoeira.
Aaaahh, capoeira... I love you so. And yet, I've been feeling really just bleeeegh when I go to classes. Back to my old self: I don't wanna play, I'm afraid I'll mess up, I'm thinking too much, nothing's coming to me, etc etc etc. Hopefully This feeling goes away by the time batizado rolls around (May 12). Aaaaayyyeeeeiiiii...
I'm giving a speech on capoeira tomorrow, I just realized XD
I'm done for now, when I remember how to blog nicely, I'll do another.
OH OH OH !
I went to a small zoo recently and saw something called a Sandhill Crane, and the name totally reminded me of Sendhil Ramamurthy (Sandhill... Sendhil... get it?!). I didn't let anybody know about that though. Ssshh.
Capoeira, capoeira, capoeira all around.
No kidding!
All this weekend my capoeira group held a workshop with our mestre, who came down from San Francisco. I never met him before, so I was really excited beforehand.
And, as it turned out, I was right to be!
Yesterday I showed up at the workshop kinda late, but no harm done. He really worked us, but I could tell I didn't feel the brunt of all the work (compared to today, that is). I was really happy and I felt like I learned stuff. He's HILARIOUS, very active and always moving around, doing all these funny actions to help get his point across. I was able to understand him despite his thick accent :]
After yesterday's class I went to dinner with a handful of people in the group. We all went to Big Wok at Redondo Beach, and it is GOOD. I highly recommend it. You just choose a bunch of things to put in your bowl and watch chefs cook it on a big wok (hence the name) for you. It was deeeelicious. One bowl was enough to fill me up :P Many lulz ensued over dinner and much was learned about others. I love it.
Today I got to workshop a liiiiittle late... I woke up half an hour before it was scheduled to start (!!!) so I was all panicky and hurried on over there. Fortunately, when I got there (15 minutes past 'start time'), everybody was still just standing around, stretching, talking, etc. Apparently they were running on Brazilian time.
Apparently Brazilian time is the same as Filipino time XD!
Damn, all the stretches and other exercises I missed yesterday came to me today, and they were HARD. There were times where my limbs felt like lead and my muscles felt like jello. And a few of those times the placebo effect failed to help me! Resulting in many falls. But hey, I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down.
I felt better once we start moving. I feel like I can push myself better through movement rather than holding a pose for a long time. By the end of today, my feet felt suuuuper tender (still does), and I think I got a blister that popped. We capoeira'd on carpet, that's why. I was gonna go out to dinner with them again tonight, but I decided to save my feet (and wallet) the pressure and kick it at home.
so yea! That was my capoeira-filled weekend.
If I were still in high school, it would've been a jazz-filled weekend.
This weekend, my old jazz band went up to San Luis Obispo for the Cuesta College Jazz Festival.
And you know what?
They took first place again, for the third year in a row!
Hot diggity damn they're so good!
I do believe they're gonna move up a level now.
I was actually supposed to go up there with them, but I decided to go for the workshops. :3 I'm happy for them though. First place again, that's incredible!
Whew, what a weekend. I'm tired now.
